Acne is moderate when pimples (blackheads , whitehead, and comedones) cover approximately half of the face. If you have moderate acne, consult a dermatologist in order to quickly get a handle on your situation. Although acne can be very depressing for those that suffer from it, doctors say that most acne is completely treatable. Usually, a combination therapies is used to treat moderate acne.

Mild inflammatory acne is caused when the area just under the plug becomes infected by an overabundance of white cell matter battling skin bacteria. The area becomes inflamed and reddened. There are two types of mild inflammatory acne, papules and pustules. Papules are reddened, inflamed acne while the pustules are reddened acne with a white collection of pus at the top.

Acne Skin Care

"It's important to remember that acne has both internal and external causes," says Amy Baker, founder of Nature's Cure, an innovative health and beauty products company. "However, there are some basic precautions you can take to help prevent breakouts."

Gently Wash Skin

Wash your skin with a mild cleanser, once in the morning and once in the evening and after heavy exercise. Wash your face from under the jaw to the hairline. Some people with acne may try to stop outbreaks and oil production by scrubbing their skin and using strong detergent soaps and rough scrub pads. However, scrubbing will not improve acne; in fact, it can make the problem worse. You can ask your health care provider for advice on the best type of cleanser to use.

Avoid Frequent Handling of the Skin

People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their blemishes risk developing scars or dark blotches. People should avoid rubbing and touching their skin lesions.

Food: All over the world, parents tell teens to avoid pizza, chocolate, greasy and fried foods, and junk food. While these foods may not be good for overall health, they don't cause acne or make it worse.

Clean your face gently, as trauma to the acne breakouts may worsen the acne or cause scarring. When washing your face, use your hands, as any terrycloth or other scrubbing material may cause acne sores to rupture.

Dirt: Some individuals have more "oily" skin than others (as mentioned above, "Blackheads" are oxidized oil, not dirt). Sweat does not cause acne, therefore, it is not necessary to shower instantly after exercise for fear that sweat will clog pores. On the other hand, excessive washing can dry and irritate the skin.

Choosing Makeup

If you are being treated for acne you may need to change some of the cosmetics you use. All cosmetics should be oil free, when in doubt read the label. It may be hard to apply foundation evenly during the first few weeks of treatment because the skin may be red or scaly, particularly with the use of topical tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide.

Avoid touching your face with your fingers or leaning your face on objects that collect sebum and skin residue like the telephone receiver. Touching your face can spread the bacteria that cause pores to become inflamed and irritated. To keep bacteria at bay, wash your hands before applying anything to your face, such as treatment creams or makeup.
