Acne usually begins with blackheads. Blackheads are not dirt, they're actually the result of oil and dead cells getting trapped in a pore where they block the duct and mix with bacteria. They then turn black when exposed to air. Red pimples develop when blackheads become inflamed and they spread when touched with dirty hands. When the pimple becomes infected, it develops a whitehead or pustule. These can break and cause scars.
Adult acne affects 25% of all adult men and 50% of adult women at some time in their adult lives. These are the official statistics, but I personally don't know many adults who have not had a zit or two in their adult lives. People can develop unpleasant acne or have an acne recurrence in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. It can be difficult to cope with no matter your age, and can cause depression and social anxiety in an adult the same way it can in a teen.
It’'s not quite that simple. Acne bacteria is nothing more than a symptom of acne. Understand by using one of these products you can easily be fooled into thinking you're getting permanent results. These products are eliminating the bacteria on your skin, thus reducing the amount of acne blemishes you can see. However, they are doing nothing to address the underlying “root cause.”
Adult acne can be a distressing and frustrating problem. Successful treatment of severe adult acne may take months or even years. But the good news is effective treatments are available. If you're concerned about adult acne, consult a dermatologist to learn more about safe, proven treatments. Also, check with your doctor before taking any dietary supplements, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.
Causes of adult acne
Bad diet is number one cause of adult-onset acne. Bad diet, which robs us of essential nutrients and disrupts both digestive ecology and healthy hormonal balance, usually consists of the following:
Overconsumption (more than 100 grams a day) of carbohydrates, especially in the form of processed breads, pastas, sugar, sweets, soda pop, etc., which stimulates insulin production and severely worsens an acne condition;
Nearly everybody thinks that acne results from poor hygiene. That's just not so. Adult acne and teen acne are caused by a combination of several factors: hormones leading to excess oil secretion, faulty closing of the hair duct, and infection. Gentle face washing twice a day is much better than more frequent washing.
Treatment
Most acne skin conditions have safe effective solutions and acne treatments. Over the years adults and teens have resorted to many solutions for acne, eczema, psoriasis, and adult onset acne. Some that come to mind are Accutane, Isotretinoin, Pro Active acne treatment, acid therapy, Retin A, and antibiotics, etc.
As adult acne often involves hormonal swings, an oral medication may be necessary to minimize these fluctuations and control the acne. Medications that can minimize hormonal fluctuations in women include some oral contraceptive pills, spironolactone, and hormone replacement therapy. These therapies are not appropriate for every woman and should never be taken during pregnancy.
