Adult Education

Adult education is the practice of teaching and educating adults. This often happens in the workplace, through ‘extension’ or ‘continuing education’ courses at secondary schools, at a college or university. Other learning places include folk high schools, community colleges, and lifelong learning centers. The practice is also often referred to as ‘Training and Development’.

Adult Education is a field of practice, research and scholarship. We believe it fosters an understanding of the different ways in which adults learn and different ways they may be helped to learn—alone, in groups, in the community, or in institutional settings. NIACE has been named Representative Organisation of the Year at the Centre for Excellence in Leadership’s (CEL) second annual Leading the learner voice awards, presented on Thursday 3rd July 2008 at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London.

Different ways of studying
Access courses allow you to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to go in to Higher Education. The Universities & Colleges Admissions Service’s (UCAS) access section contains a searchable database of the whole range of courses available.

At present, students can choose a thesis or non-thesis option. Each choice allows students to focus either on personal learning, an educational project/study, or a combination of both. The master’s program provides a suitable learning experience for persons who are professional educators.
