Blackheads are caused by partially blocked pores. The “black” appearance of them is not caused by dirt, but by the oxidising effect of air on the sebum (oil) in a blocked pore and the melanin pigment from the dead skin cells. How to get Rid of Blackheads?

Mild cases can be treated by using over the counter medicines such as cleansers, moisturizers, creams and ointments.

In case of severity medications are followed according to the physician’s check ups and recommendations.

Keeping the skin as clean as possible, washing away excess oil build up and dead skin particles is the best start. Choose a mild and gentle cleansing lotion to avoid drying out the skin. Also try to use a gentle exfoliater to shift the old skin cells away.

Visit your dermatologist. Ask about vitamin supplements for healthy skin. Vitamin A will keep the oil flowing uniformly and won’t clog your pores. Tretinoin and Adapalene are common retinoids for skin treatments.

Blackheads always hide deep in our pores and make it very painful to get them out.  Many people just go with the simple pinch and squeeze technique.  This may get rid of some of your blackheads, but it is in no way a permanent fix.  The problem with this technique is the damage that is caused by the pressure that you have to apply when you are pinching the blackhead.

Use a mild scrub or exfoliant to remove any dead cells and expose the blackhead. Pat your face dry. Place a slightly warm compress on your face for approximately 10-15 minutes in order to soften the blackhead, making it easier to remove. Pat your face dry again. Place a piece of tissue on the tip of each finger to avoid slipping, which could tear the skin and cause further damage.

The best way to remove a blackhead is to place a warm wash cloth over the affected area of the blackhead allowing the it to soften. Use the wash cloth to gentle squeeze the blackhead out. If this process does not work on the first try repeat with a warm cloth until the blackhead becomes soft enough to work with.

Blackhead removal strips are becoming popular but care needs to be taken not to damage the skin by excess use of these products. It is essential to follow the instructions from the supplier to achieve the best results.

As tempting as it may be, avoid squeezing to get rid of blackheads. This can actually damage the skin and lead to scarring; it can also enlarge the pore and lead to more blackheads in the future.Use blackhead or pore strips for areas such as the nose and the chin. When applied correctly, these tape-like strips can get rid of blackheads quickly and effectively. Strips are not for everybody, as they only clear superficial impurities and cannot deal with excess oil that is deep inside the pores.
