Acne is a tremendously embarrassing and burdensome problem. It is easy to feel that you don’t have control over your breakouts. But the fact is, you do. Now, your first response may be to assume that I’m going to recommend you see your dermatologist. Well, think again. Natural remedies can be just as effective and medications.
What causes acne?
The new trend in medical circles is to discuss acne as a hormonal imbalance. The previous trend was to talk about pores getting clogged by sebum. Unfortunately, neither of these are causes. What causes a hormonal imbalance? What causes pores to get clogged?

One of the best fiber-rich foods is called psyllium. You can buy psyllium husks from your local supermarket or health food store and you can easily mix a tablespoon into a glass of water and drink it. Psyllium husks is also the main ingredient on some popular laxative drinks like Metamucil.
The acne remedy for teenagers is to use diluted natural apple cider vinegar (one part vinegar to three parts water) daily at the first sign of bumps to eliminate them before they become breakouts. This dilution is mild enough for most anyone’s face, young or old. But, it should not be used on a man’s face after shaving - using it before shaving will prevent stinging.
Basil and Neem – Basil and neem make an interesting addition to a bottle of astringent. Just take fresh basil and neem and put them in a fresh bottle of astringent. Allow the herbs to steep in the astringent and leave them in the bottle. Use the astringent as indicated.
You can even apply papaya on your face, but remember it should be raw. These natural treatments prevent the infections from spreading further and help your skin stay healthy and glowing.
Vitamin A is also used to fight severe acne. Accutane® is a popular prescription drug containing vitamin A that has provided extended relief to many suffering from severe acne. Other experimentation with vitamin A includes the use of extremely high daily doses of vitamin A (up to 500,000 IU) to curb acne conditions; however, the termination of this type of treatment generally results in the reemergence of acne in patients within a few months. However, the downside of using vitamin A in connetion with acne is that high doses of vitamin A can be toxic.

Either way, the natural remedies they discovered were the basis for scientists who later found ways to create synthetic substitutes for these herbs and distill the innate properties down into a form that can be amplified or augmented by other elements.
